Oolong tea is semi oxidised tea. It's in between green tea (unoxidised tea) and black tea (fully oxidised) on the oxidisation chart. (Oxidisation is the the effect of oxygen matter, you see it when you slice an apple in half and it goes brown or when you leave iron outside).
Different Colours of Oolong
Oolong tea come in such a wide range of oxidisation levels that there are categories within this category. The Taiwan spilt oolong teas into three types, jade oolong a lightly oxidised oolong tea, amber oolong tea with a medium level of oxidisation and finally champagne oolong which is the most oxidised of oolong teas.
Weight-Loss
Oolong is often heavily linked with weight-loss. The Chinese have believed that oolong tea has helped with weight-loss for centuries. The current weight-loss claims around this tea centres on the polyphenol content of oolong tea which is higher than in those of other teas. The truth is though that while drinking oolong tea may help you lose weight it is unlikely to help you lose any more weight than drinking green or white tea.
